Charlotte Aeromodelers Club welcomes for membership all people that have an interest in flying radio controlled aircraft. This includes those individuals that are already proficient pilots, beginners with absolutely no experience, and everyone in between. Members must meet the following requirements:
- For insurance liability reasons, you must be a member of Academy of Model Aeronautics (aka “AMA”). To join AMA, go here: https://www.modelaircraft.org/membership/enroll
- Acknowledge that you have read and will abide by our club By-laws and Handbook
- For pilots with experience, you still must be “certified” to fly solo by an existing club member. This means you must be able to take off, land, and fly in a pattern in a controlled manner.
- For beginners, please contact please contact our VP, Tim Goelzer, at tgoelzer1@gmail.com or 704-400-3818. He will connect you with a club member who will train you to fly safely as well as give you foundational knowledge such as plane setup and flying courtesy/guidelines.
- To become a General Member, Satellite Member, or Junior Member, you must be sponsored by a current member. If you do not know a current member, please contact Tim Goelzer (VP of the Club) to introduce yourself so he can serve as your sponsor: tgoelzer1@gmail.com or 704-400-3818.
- General Members, Satellite Members, and Junior Members need to be approved to join by a unanimous vote of the General Members at the next monthly membership meeting after you submit your application.
Try and Fly Program
We also offer a Try and Fly program for prospective new members who want to try the hobby and/or Club out before making the investment to join as a full member. To join as a Try and Fly member:
- You must complete Bullets 1 – 4 in the section above
- The cost for Try and Fly is $100 which gives you flying privileges for 90 days. At the end of the 90 day Try and Fly period you can decide if you want to join the club or not.
- If you do decide that you want to join the club as a full member, you will subject to Bullets 5 and 6 above
Club Membership Period and Dues
Our membership fiscal year is June 1- May 31st. Full year dues are $400 for General Membership, $200 for Satellite membership (primary residence at least 75 miles from the CAM Field – the club treasurer will determine if a person qualifies for satellite membership), and $50.00 for Junior Membership (18 and under). New members joining after July 1 will pay a pro-rated amount based on the months remaining in the year (i.e., $35.00/month General members, $17/month Satellite members, $5.00/month Junior members).
If you are a Try and Fly member and elect to become a full member, you will pay the remaining pro-rated dues for the existing flying year.
Note that to become a General, Satellite or Junior Member, you must be sponsored by a current member and be approved by a unanimous vote of the General Membership at the next monthly club meeting after you submit your application. Please do not pay your annual dues until AFTER you are approved for membership. If you do pay your dues and and are NOT approved for membership, you payment will be refunded.

Zelle – Annual dues owed will be $402 for General Membership, $202 for Satellite, $52 for Junior membership, and $102 for Try and Fly. Using your bank app or website, add the club as a recipient as follows:
